TLV, January 3rd, 2018 - With the launch of the new Portégé X and Tecra X series at the beginning of the year, these Toshiba notebooks need to undergo strict MIL-STD-810G test procedures before launching on the market for the first time. The test procedure consists of ten tests - from drops to dust tests to temperature tests. Each model of the X series must successfully pass all ten stress tests before it can come to market. Toshiba Europe GmbH also ensures all business notebooks go through the H.A.L.T. (Highly Accelerated Life Test) procedure of TÜV Rheinland.

MIL-STD-810G Standard: Bootcamp for the notebook
The test method originally developed by the American military contains a combination of different test conditions and environments that are simulated in the laboratory in ten tests. After the respective test, the device is checked as to whether it is fully functional.
Test 1 - Crash: The notebook is dropped from 76 cm in height (the average desk height) - 26 times on all sides, corners and edges.
Test 2 - Vibration: The test device is subjected to vibration from all sides, whilst both on and off, in alternating strengths and in varying order.
Test 3 - Shocks: In the so-called shock test, the product is bumped 18 times in a row to produce a realistic energy curve.
Test 4 - Dust: During a six-hour experiment, the notebook remains in a dust chamber. Dirt particles are blown against the open device.
Test 5 - Height: Air pressure is reduced to a height of 4,570 meter his is not allowed to affect the test object either in the on or off mode.
Test 6-8 - Temperature: The behaviour of the notebook is examined at both very high temperatures (30 ° C - 60 ° C) as well as at very low temperatures (-20 ° C). In addition, strong temperature fluctuations (from -20 ° C to up to 60 ° C) are generated and the notebooks are viewed in different time periods, both on and off.
Test 9 - Humidity: The switched-off devices must be able to withstand a continuous humidity of 96% for 10 days.
Test 10 - Exposure to the sun: The devices are turned off and closed and placed three times in the sun for 24 hours.

The Highly Accelerated Life Test better known as H.A.L.T. – puts the notebook through an artificial ageing process by provoking various procedures to it in a tight time frame.
